Mr. Saurabh Mani

Valedictory Speech given during 2022 Graduation Ceremony

Hello, Good afternoon, everyone!

I want to begin by congratulating all the graduates who are present today – also the entire faculty and administrative team at SIPMM who supported us in reaching this great destination.

I am honoured that SIPMM has asked me to share my experience with everyone.

Before sharing my story, I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Saurabh Mani, and currently working for Deutsche Bank as a Vice President (Procurement). My primary role is to procure Banking Services and Software for the firm. Before joining procurement, I did various roles (from software programming to COO/Business Management to Vendor governance).

Though all my past experience helped me in my current role, I was always searching for a specialised academic program in the field of procurement. I still recall that while searching for an appropriate course, I made the decision to join this institute for some key reasons:

  1. SIPMM is one of Singapore’s oldest and, if I am not mistaken, the only professional body specialising in procurement and supply chain.
  2. The course is delivered by operational experts, so its industry relevant.
  3. Lastly, we can take this course in the evening hours, i.e., without impacting professional life.

Without further consideration, I enrolled myself in this course. And I was delighted with my decision – I was learning something new every day. I was unfamiliar with the complexity of the supply chain, but Mr Wong provided a clear end-to-end view. Even the case studies on procurement with Mr Choo and my classmates gave me a new perspective on handling certain difficult situations.

As you are aware, procurement and supply chain are crucial functions for any organisation. Successful management of these not only reduces risks and costs but also increases customer satisfaction. If you understand these functions in detail, you can undoubtedly grow in your organisation as an expert.

Before I conclude, I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Poh, who guided us in this journey and emphasised the significance of digital marketing. He is the only teacher or consultant I know who can teach complicated topics in a simple manner.

Again, I would also like to thank my lecturers, classmates and non-teaching staff for their contributions.

Lastly, I want to thank my wife and daughters, whose unwavering support has helped me reach these objectives.

Thanks to everyone, and best wishes for future success.

Have a pleasant day!
