What you will be able to do

By the end of this programme you will be able to:

  • Apply the principles and framework that govern public procurement
  • Process a public purchase requisition through its approval stages
  • Prequalify and audit vendors for public sector purchases
  • Carry out public sourcing and supplier selection exercises
  • Recognise the legal aspects of a public purchase order and contract

Programme outline

Public procurement runs to a defined set of principles and frameworks, and staff new to the function need to work within them from the point a requisition is raised. The programme follows the cycle end to end: principles and framework, purchase requisition and approval, vendor prequalification and audit, sourcing and supplier selection, and the purchase order together with the legal aspects of contract. You will finish with a working grounding in each of these stages, reinforced by practical exercises on public procurement during the session.

  2. Public Purchase Requisition and Approval
  3. Public Vendor Prequalification and Audit

Who should attend

You raise, approve or process purchases inside a government agency, statutory board or publicly funded organisation, and you are expected to work within a defined procurement framework from the moment a requisition is raised. The programme is written for Procurement Executives, Purchasing Officers, Contracts Officers and Administrative Executives who handle requisitions, vendor records and tender documentation. Supervisors and managers who have recently taken on public procurement duties will find it a sound grounding in the full cycle.
