What you will be able to do

By the end of this programme you will be able to:

  • Build the framework of a procurement category plan
  • Segment procurement spend into categories along the procurement process
  • Aggregate procurement expense and analyse spend to create financial leverage
  • Select quadrantic and value-adding strategies for each category
  • Identify and manage the risks specific to individual categories

Programme outline

Category management treats procurement spend as a portfolio, grouping it into categories so that expense can be aggregated and each category given a strategy of its own. The programme builds the framework of a procurement category plan, covering the procurement process and category segmentation, procurement expense aggregation and spend analytics, financial leveraging, quadrantic and value-adding strategies, and the management of category-specific risks. You will be able to segment procurement spend into categories, aggregate and analyse the expense behind each, and select strategies suited to a category and its particular risks.

Who should attend

Your organisation buys across many suppliers and cost lines, and someone has to decide which purchases belong together and how each group should be bought. The programme suits Category Managers and Category Executives new to the role, Procurement and Purchasing Managers taking on category responsibility, and Sourcing Specialists or Spend Analysts who prepare the numbers behind the plan. Finance business partners who work alongside procurement on spend will also follow the material comfortably.

Approving this for your team? The programme is suitable for staff development budgets, and SIPMM can invoice your organisation directly and arrange group registrations.
