Good Afternoon,
My name is Amy Fung and it’s hard to believe that this day has finally arrived. We’ve spent countless hours studying, laughing, and growing together in this hub. As I stand here today, I am reminded of the quote by Peter Drucker: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” As valedictorian representing the Graduate Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management intake, I believe we are more than ready to shape the future of this essential field.
While I’m honored to be the graduate speaker, I must admit that writing this speech was even harder than writing my article— believe me, I never thought anything could be more challenging than that! The tricky part was being told my graduation speech had to make you laugh first, then cry, and finally inspire you—all while keeping it short. As you can see, that’s no easy task, but I’ll do my best!
This journey hasn’t always been easy. We’ve spent late nights cramming for reports, faced moments of self-doubt, and tackled challenges that tested our limits. Yet, through it all, we’ve learned valuable lessons that will stay with us long after we leave these halls.
We’ve discovered the importance of perseverance, the power of collaboration, and the value of embracing our unique strengths. We’ve identified our passions, honed our skills, and forged friendships that will last a lifetime. These are the foundations that will truly shape our futures.
On behalf of the graduating cohort of 2024, I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to Professor Philip Poh, who has been an incredible mentor and inspiration throughout our academic journey. Your guidance has helped us grow both academically and personally. Your dedication to your students is truly remarkable, and we are so proud to have learned from you.
To Mr David Tan and Mr Alex Loo, thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement. Your belief in us has pushed us to strive for excellence, and we will miss the laughter and joy you brought to our classroom.
To Mr Nick Lai, thank you for creating such a stimulating and wonderful learning environment for our procurement class.
To our families and friends, thank you for your endless support and for believing in us, even when we doubted ourselves. Your love and encouragement have been our anchor in this stormy sea of adolescence.
Finally, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my Managing Director from Olam Cocoa, Mr Yeong Chye, and our HR Director, Ms Alice Guok, for their steadfast support and guidance. Their visionary leadership and strategic direction have played a crucial role in cultivating a dynamic and rewarding work environment. I am especially thankful for the growth opportunities they provided, which allowed me to tackle challenging projects and enhance my skills. Their commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and innovation has been truly inspiring, and I feel proud to have been part of this journey. I am confident that the skills and experiences I gained at Olam Cocoa under their leadership will greatly benefit me in my future endeavors.
To fellow graduates, I know you will agree with everything I’ve mentioned. In appreciation of our family and friends, who have given us their unwavering support and love throughout our studies, I would like to invite all of you to join me in giving 3 cheers, to express our gratitude.
Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and face our family and friends.
When I say “Hip-Hip”, please respond with “Hoo-Ray”.
Are you all ready? OK, on the count of three: 1, 2, 3 — “Hip Hip!” (Graduates respond with “Hoo-Ray!”)
The second shout must be louder than the first. Are you all ready? 1, 2, 3 — “Hip Hip!” (Graduates respond with a louder “Hoo-Ray!”)
And now, for our last shout, please give your loudest cheer. Are you ready for the loudest shout of all time? Ready? 1, 2, 3— “Hip Hip!” (Graduates respond with the loudest “Hoo-Ray!”)
Thank you! You may be seated.
As we embark on this new adventure, let’s carry with us not just our academic knowledge but also the life lessons we’ve learned. Remember, every “no” is just a step closer to a “yes”. And never underestimate the power of a good laugh, a kind word, or a well-placed emoji!
As we disperse into the world like free Wi-Fi signals, let’s stay connected—not just on Instagram or TikTok, but in the real, “let’s grab a coffee and catch up” kind of way. Here’s to us, the class of 2024, ready to download the next big update in our lives. May your batteries be charged; your connections be stable, and your futures bright.
Congratulations once again! May our journey be filled with purpose, fulfillment, and endless opportunities. Let’s continue to learn, grow, and make a positive impact on the world. Thank you!
